“Who’s the Artist Today?”

Motivational speaker and author Steve Chandler wrote about a “day-painting”—course taught by Dennis Deaton in his book 100 Ways to Motivate Yourself: Change Your Life Forever.

He used blank canvas as a metaphor for a new day. Think everyone as an artist and at the end of the day what one accomplishes is like the painting the artist painted. Does an artist allow other people to splatter on his canvas? Of course not. But in reality we do exactly that every day. We talk to whoever calls, flood our mind with internet gossip, the latest murder trial, air disaster or whatever negative news on TV. At the end of the day, we leave a mess on the canvas.

Is this what we really wanted? No. There’s another way. That is to choose what you’ll do, like choosing the color to paint the canvas. We cannot control other people or circumstances, but we can control ourselves.

So at the starting of every day, the question one should answer is-“Who’s the artist today?”
